January often brings a time of reflection, re-evaluation and re-organization. There are some areas of our life that affect so many others that until they are running smoothly, nothing else can run at full capacity. It may sound ridiculous but your closet is one of those crucial areas. If your closet is a mess, it spills over into your bedroom causing you to get less effective sleep. When your closet is a mess it takes longer to dress, eating up precious work hours. When your closet is unorganized chances are that you are damaging your clothing, which means they will have to be replaced more often - a huge expense. Not to mention the toll that having a messy closet takes on your self esteem. If you doubt the veracity of all I'm saying, take the time to reorganize your closet and see if you don't feel differently. I believe that my internal house is a reflection of my external house and my closet is organized and color coded and cleared out every six months and what I have not worn in a year is donated to a charity of some kind or to people that are in need of clothing. I live in California, home of the California Closet. The term evolved from the Pasadena Closet which was a staple in homes built in the Los Angeles area in the 40's. 50's and even 60's. These hand crafted closets maximized storage by lowering the height of the hanging bar in order to add cupboard storage above the hanging and more often than not the designer added a row of drawers on the side of the closet. Pasadena closets were the granddaddy to all of the truly delicious custom California Closets that can be found around the world today. A true California Closet features double hanging and a place for everything a closet owner could possibly own. If your closet is a small disaster and you don't know double hanging from long hanging it's time to treat yourself to a change. Stay tuned, for more installments of the California Closet Makeover. If you need a recommendation of who to contact please email me and I will suggest someone to help you get organized or to just help you with the closet. Sometimes when we take it on ourselves it is all too much. A professional organizer can really help.
